Connecting vehicles, energy and local needs.
Electric mobility brings together energy infrastructure, communications, software and digital services. We investigate how these systems can work together to make charging easier to use, safer and more efficient, with an interest in the needs of island communities.
A central project is ChargeNest, a platform being developed by DREAMLAB CYBERTECHNOLOGIES SMPC for charging-infrastructure management. The Center connects this work with educational experimentation and interdisciplinary exploration. We examine the charging journey from the driver experience to charger communications, power allocation, consumption recording and payment integration.
Seasonality, tourism and available electrical capacity create distinctive conditions on islands. Power allocation, simulation and energy-data analysis are areas for research and testing. Integration with local generation and energy storage is a future research direction.
Areas of experimentation and development
- OCPP — communications, telemetry and interoperability
- Smart charging and available-power allocation
- Web and QR access, identification and payments
- Cybersecurity and event logging
- Simulation of chargers, sessions and failures
- Consumption measurements and energy-data analysis
ChargeNest is under development, combining software implementation, simulations and connected-system testing.
